New Directions For 2011
Well, Christmas is behind me (I hope you had a great one) and I am getting ready for the upcoming new year. I have already started "brain storming" and coming up with a game plan for 2011. I am going to take things in a new direction this year but not entirely. I am going to keep going with the Internet marketing but will be focusing my attention on helping newbies by holding weekly webinars.
The new part of my business is going to be more of a traditional type business in that I will be dealing with local businesses in my area. It will still be dealing with the internet but my clients will be offline.
I stumbled upon this almost by accident. I still work a 40 hour per week job at a company that specializes in automated welding. The company owns their rather large building and leases a portion of the space.
One of the tenants is a company that works on race cars for people involved in the Sports Car Club of America and even have a few NASCAR customers. They do car and engine modifications or will even build you a car from the ground up if you wish. They also provide training for "wannabe" drivers and they rent race cars.
The owner would always see me working on my laptop during my lunch hour and asked me what I was doing. I told him about my internet marketing business and he asked me if I knew anything about SEO. We talked for awhile and he handed me $500 to start working on his 4 year old website which was currently on the 10th page of search results for the term "race car rentals".
I now have him ranked #2 on Google, for the same keyword phrase, and another listing on the first page complimented by several on the second page of results. He is on the first page results for Yahoo and Bing as well. We are working on a contract right now where he will be paying me monthly to do all his SEO work as well as getting ready for the mobile boom which is taking place.
Around the same time, 2 things happened that started me down the path of becoming somewhat of a local marketing expert. The first occurred when I did a promotion for a local marketing product called Internet Street Fighter. I became so impressed with the pre-launch content that I purchased the course myself.
The second thing happened by coincidence. I had been putting together a membership site when Internet marketing guru, Gary Ambrose, launched his Memberspring product. These were WordPress sites with a plugin to handle the members area and ready made content to give you a good starting base for the site.
I purchased the product and one of the sites was about Local Marketing. Between the Internet Street Fighter training, which is still ongoing with monthly webinars, and the content in the membership site, I have become very knowledgeable about marketing to local businesses.
I have also purchased just about everything I could get my hands on to further my education. I have included a lot of these courses inside the members area of my local online marketing membership site. If you are interested in doing something like this, my site would be a good place to start.
I would recommend the Internet Street Fighter course, which has proven to be an incredibly useful resource, but the membership is closed and I am not sure if it will ever open again. The truth is, if you have been in the Internet marketing field for any amount of time, you probably know 10x more then any local business owner.
That is one of the main reasons that I have chosen to change gears in 2011. Compared to trying to make online money with Internet marketing…
This stuff is Easy!
The knowledge that I have acquired over the last 5 years about SEO easily puts me in the "Expert" category. If you include what I have learned about upsells, email marketing, copy writing, and the general webmaster skills I have learned, I am an online genius as far as the average local business owner is concerned.
The same is probably true for you as well. The skill sets we develop as Internet marketers are very specific to our niche and not something the general public even has a clue about. That makes your knowledge very valuable.
This is a very interesting time in history. We are at the beginning of a technological explosion which is about to take off at light speed. I hold an Electronics degree from Devry University. One of the courses I took during my final semester there was called "Ethics In Technology".
We would talk about emerging technologies and discuss how they would affect the world on a social, economic, and psycological level. We had models that we would use to compare and contrast against current and older technologies.
Sounds pretty boring right?
Actually, it was at first. Then as we ran through a few models and looked at some of the emerging technologies, I became fascinated with it. It seems that throughout history there have been pivotal inventions and discoveries that enable huge spurts of advancement.
Things like the forge, which enabled the creation of high grade steel and more lately the silicon chip. Both of these creations were catylists that caused the technology of their time to grow exponentially. The impact that they had on society, and the economy are too great to be measured.
I have always been intrigued by quantum physics and especially the cyclical nature of the universe. Just about everything you can think of can be represented mathematically and even more so as a "sine" wave. If your not a big math or science buff, that's OK.
What I am referring too can easily be represented by any stock chart. Especially one that covers a long time span like 20 years or more. You will see that prices are always on the move, like an electron moving around the nucleus of an atom. The movement will be on the upswing for a while and then it always swings the other way for a while.
Many wise investors have taken advantage of these types of trends to position themselves one way or the other and make a lot of money. We are at a period in time where there are some of these trends are showing signs that it is time for them to change directions.
There are also some emerging technologies that are going to create some incredible opportunities for people to monetize if they position themselves properly. The local marketing trend is only one of them. There are also going to be all kinds of "spin offs" that are going to occur that will be very profitable for those in the know.
Starting tomorrow, I am going to be posting information here on this blog that will help you take advantage of some of the emerging and upcoming trends that are going to be potential money makers for everyone who can position themselves properly.
So bookmark this page and comeback tomorrow. I know you will find the information helpful if not interesting. You can also sign up to be notified via RSS.
See you then.
